“Smart Escalator Safety System”, the entry by student Tao Ernie and CHAN Yat Fung from Diploma of Vocational Education (Electronic and Computer Engineering) of Youth College (Kowloon Bay) was awarded the "Certificate of Excellence" in the Tertiary Group of the Innovate for Future (IFF) Competition 2025.
IFF Competition is an open competition of innovation & technology to inspire the young people in Hong Kong to create innovative products or services for solving and improving real-life challenges, though idea generation to prototype development.
“Smart Escalator Safety System” is an innovative solution designed to improve escalator safety by leveraging AI-powered CCTV cameras and IoT-enabled automation. The system detects obstructions at escalator exits in real-time, triggering alerts and controls escalator operations to prevent accidents and ensure smooth operation.
