In May, a team of dedicated teachers and students from Youth College successfully organised the engaging “I’m Number Hero” Mathematics Card Game at Hong Kong Red Swastika Society Tai Po Secondary School, providing students with a mathematics experience that was both challenging and enjoyable. Working in teams of four to five, students competed using a dynamic deck of number cards, operation cards, wild cards, and special function cards, including challenging square roots. The game tested students’ mental calculation, flexible thinking, speed, and strategic planning. With exciting reverse-function cards that could flip the outcome at any moment, each round was filled with surprises, friendly competition and fair play.

This innovative game-based learning activity brought mathematics to life in an enjoyable and interactive way. Through the game, students sharpened their calculation skills, strengthened their number sense, and built greater confidence in mathematics. More importantly, they discovered that learning Maths can be both challenging and genuinely enjoyable. The students’ enthusiastic participation and overwhelmingly positive feedback made the event a great success.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participating students and teachers from Hong Kong Red Swastika Society Tai Po Secondary School. The beautifully handcrafted thank-you cards prepared by the students were particularly heartwarming and served as meaningful source of motivation for the Youth College student team to continue creating inspiring and impactful learning experiences for young learners.
