Sustainability Carnival cum Closing Ceremony of the VTC Student Environmental Ambassador Programme

Kowloon Bay

Organised by the Corporate Environmental and Sustainable Development Office (CESDO), the Sustainability Carnival cum Closing Ceremony of the VTC Student Environmental Ambassador Programme was successfully held on 21 April 2026 at the Youth College (Kowloon Bay) campus. The event marked the culmination of a year-long journey dedicated in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices within and beyond the VTC community.

This year, over 270 student ambassadors from Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (Thei), Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and Youth College (YC) actively participated in a wide range of educational and community initiatives, demonstrating strong commitment to environmental protection. The Sustainability Carnival provided an interactive platform to celebrate their achievements, exchange ideas on sustainability, and inspire continued action towards a greener future. With Youth College students comprising half of all participants, their enthusiastic participation and contributions were instrumental to the programme’s success.

The carnival commenced with welcoming remarks by Principal WONG Chak-wing, who highlighted the pivotal role of youth leadership in driving environmental change. He also motivated students to continue inspiring and influencing others, underscoring the critical role of the younger generation in preserving our planet.

A special address was also delivered by Mr. Edwin LAU, Founder of The Green Earth, who emphasised the importance of collective action in building a sustainable future. In alignment with Earth Day on 22 April, he encouraged students to adopt sustainable lifestyles, reinforcing that every individual effort contributes to powerful changes.

At the Sustainability Carnival, participants can explore a series of project showcases and environmental awareness booths organised by Student Environmental Ambassadors. In addition, they can take part in a variety of engaging and inspiring eco-workshops and exhibitions hosted by green partners including Mil Mill, ALBA, The Green Earth together with CESDO and Shine Skills Centre.

A key highlight of the event was the Closing Ceremony of the VTC Student Environmental Ambassadors Programme, during which around 65 students were awarded certificates in recognition of their dedication and contributions. The closing ceremony brought together participants to celebrate their accomplishments and reaffirm their commitment to sustainability.

In his closing remarks, Ir CF LAI, the director of the Corporate Environmental and Sustainable Development Office, encouraged all of the students to make use of their experiences gained from the programme to inspire and motivate their friends and family to embrace sustainability as a way of life throughout their career and different stages of their lives.

The event also marked the launch of the new Green Corner of CESDO at Youth College (Kowloon Bay), further strengthening VTC’s efforts in promoting green practices and fostering a sustainable, healthy campus environment.
